WestTown Homeless Resource Center opens to provide services, day shelter in Oklahoma City

Reprinted from NewsOK.com

The WestTown Resource Center and day shelter officially opened August 15, 2011 at 1724 NW 3rd St in Oklahoma City and includes the city's only day shelter. WestTown, which takes up a city block near the corner of NW 3 and Virginia, encompasses two rehabilitated warehouses. The resource center is housed in one building and includes offices for agencies such as Legal Aid, Neighborhood Services Organization and Healing Hands. The adjacent building houses the day shelter that is managed by CityCare and includes a place where homeless and indigent people can receive free breakfast and lunches, take showers, store items in lockers, use computers and watch television.  The day shelter also is a place where people can go when they are waiting to be connected to the resources available at the resource center.

Housing all of the agencies in one place is beneficial to the people receiving help and the organizations giving it.  With numerous agencies in one location, you don't have to go from place to place to receive aid.  Agencies with offices at the resource center include the Homeless Alliance, CityCare, Healing Hands, Legal Aid, NorthCare, Neighborhood Services Organization, Positive Tomorrows, Red Rock Behavioral Health Services, Volunteers of America, Wholestic Counseling and YWCA.  Other agencies planning to join the center soon include Hope Community Services, The Education and Employment Ministry, Veterans Affairs and Baptist Medical and Dental Fellowship.
